Spreetail Life

Relationship and Experience-Driven Culture

May 10, 2022

It’s hard to believe it’s been over two years since our team had to quickly adjust to new working environments due to the global pandemic. Our office team members transitioned to working from home in March of 2020, while our team members in fulfillment centers across the country were working diligently to meet the changing buying habits of consumers. After more than a decade of working in the ecommerce industry, we joke at Spreetail that one thing is constant: change.

Team members did a great job balancing the new challenges of working from home, while our fulfillment teams diligently filled orders despite the various circumstances that accompany COVID-19. Over the last two years, we spent a lot of time learning how our work has shifted and changed as we implemented our new workforce strategy. We understand collaboration is a vital component of Spreetail’s success, no matter if you are working in a hybrid, remote, or onsite environment. Our team members have proven they can adapt, and we are confident the relationship and experience-driven hybrid culture is best as we continue to build one of the fastest-growing ecommerce companies in history.

Hybrid

In Spring 2022, our office team members will once again have the opportunity to meet in-person at our physical locations in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska. Tuesdays and Wednesdays will be designated days for collaboration and team-building time in-office. Our Real Estate & Services team has been preparing these two offices to accommodate the large number of new employees that have joined Spreetail in the last two years. The updated spaces are intentionally designed for team members to work together to solve complicated problems, host partners, and build relationships with each other.

We do recognize there are some tasks and projects that are optimal to conquer while working remotely. Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, office team members can work from home to focus on deep-thinking work, high-volume and repetitive tasks, recurring meetings that already have traction, external partner calls, and video interviews. To help new team members create ideal home setups, we’ll continue to provide reimbursements for office equipment.

To focus on creating space for immersive remote experiences, we are launching two fully remote months for our office teams. From December 15 to January 15 and June 15 to July 15, office-based Spreetailers are encouraged to be fully remote. In late July of 2022, many teams will start returning to the Lincoln and Omaha offices and our People Operations, Real Estate & Services, and IT teams are in full-preparation mode. To make the transition as seamless as possible, team members returning to the office are provided maps, FAQs, and opportunities to build relationships through catered lunches, coffee connections, and happy hours. As we’ve added many new team members over the last two years, we understand the transition to working in the office two days a week is an adjustment and have provided a reboarding experience that includes informational sessions on office norms and expectations, resources that include articles and podcasts on how to make the transition more seamless, and a group of seasoned team members readily available for any questions individuals returning to the office have on any subject.

Remote

In the Spring of 2021, we evolved our Software & Technology workforce strategy, offering opportunities for these teams to operate in a 100% remote environment. This not only included team members who are in Austin, Lincoln, and Omaha, but we expanded our talent pool to the six states where our fulfillment centers are located. Over the last year, we’ve been able to add top tech talent from Georgia, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, Nevada, and Texas.

As we continue to scale our Software team, providing unique and collaborative employee experiences for our remote team members remains top of mind. This team has developed clear commitments to one another in how they connect virtually – this has been integral to our success as a remote-first team and has allowed us to be intentional with our interactions.

Spreetail places an emphasis on the experiences of our remote team members. From offering virtual opportunities during our bi-annual Volunteer Weeks, to creating experiences that connect team members across the globe – our goal is to create a culture of consistent contact, ensuring our remote Software team never feels disconnected.

Onsite

It’s important we acknowledge not every role in every company has the flexibility to exist outside of an established location. Our fulfillment teams are a prime example of this – consumers continue to appreciate the benefits provided by online ordering and our fulfillment team members continue to meet those needs, as they have every day since Spreetail got its start. Our commitment to our fulfillment teams became ever more essential as we continually evaluated and updated practices and policies to keep our team members safe through the initial surge of the pandemic, and now well beyond.

As Spreetail continues to expand our fulfillment network across the US and beyond to ensure we’re reaching our customers with industry-leading speeds, we remain focused on what we know to be essential to the success of our team and business – building strong relationships. At every fulfillment center across the Spreetail network, you’ll meet team members who want to know you, your story, and how they can help you make your mark. They’re hard-working, kind, and maybe a touch competitive as they work to outperform other fulfillment centers. Through volunteering, food truck lunches, celebrating one another, and more – these team members are building connection and making their dent in their communities.

As the world continues to evolve, so does the ecommerce industry. At Spreetail, we must adapt to continue to build something big, together. To achieve this, we are always exploring the right way to construct our environment while maintaining the core of our company - a relationship and experience-driven culture. If you’re craving this type of work environment, check out the open opportunities to join our team.
